Can You Hear That?

Standard

My house is completely quiet at the moment! Actually, it will be this way for the next few hours and I’m going to enjoy every second of it! My husband is on his summer break from work. Just finished Friday. Since then we have had a fun filled weekend! I realized this weekend, I desperately want an i-phone, because there were so many things I would have loved to share (good) pictures of with you!
Until then, I will share a few random thoughts and pictures I’ve been wanting to share!

Let’s start with breakfast! So Much To Share!

Peeta

Standard

That is what I have nicknamed my ipad. Is it popular? Of course. But that isn’t the real reason why I’ve decided on that name. I decided to name my ipad Peeta because my ipad is hijacked, brainwashed, insane! Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE my ipad. However sometimes, I think my ipad forgets if my love is real or not real. Real Peeta, it is real! So until Peeta and I get past his brainwashing, I will continue posting from my trusty notebook.

Some may say that it is the operator, but let’s live in our fantasy world, m’kay?

On to other thoughts, I have a few out of town work projects coming up, would anyone like to guest blog for me? I’ve never had a guest blogger but I’m sure we could figure out the details!! Please email me if you are interested and let me know what your topic would be!

So the other day I was trying to think of something fun to do with my hair.

This is what I came up with! How fun?! The best thing, it is super simple and I promise pretty much anyone can do it! Let me know if you want details.

How about a couple light breakfast or snack ideas? I had been dreaming of this combo so I was super excited when it hit the spot. Even my husband was wanting to make it.

PB and Granola Apples! I think I will spare you the details on how to make it. I’m sure you’ll figure it out! This was the first time I’ve used that Better’n Peanut Butter. It is actually pretty good! I tried it out with another dessert but it was a disappointment. So I’ll spare you from that too!!  Did I tell you we love camping?? I thought this would make a perfect snack for then too!!

The second breakfast idea is equally as easy!

Broiled Grapefruit!  To me the title doesn’t sound as good as it actually was! This is super easy and only consists of a few ingredients.

You will need:

grapefruit

brown sugar

plain greek yogurt

Preheat oven to 450. Using a knife, cut around the grapefruit to separate the peel from the good stuff.

Sprinkle brown sugar to your preference.

Broil for 5 minutes or until the brown sugar starts to get bubbly.

I served mine with a few spoonfuls of greek yogurt and a dash of cinnamon.

Enjoy!!

Really? Me??

Standard

Have you ever been shocked when you got picked for something? So surprised that you had to do one of those quick glances around to make sure that person was really picking you? I had one of those days, twice in a week!

The Tragic Whale chose me for a Liebster Blog Award. First thought, Me? Really?? Second thought, THANKS! Third thought, what is a Liebster Blog Award?

So essentially a Liebster (which means something like “favorite” or “dear”) is an award given to the appreciated underdogs of the blog world. Those with around 200 (more or less) followers. A way of telling people who you are but then passing the torch to five blogging buddies whom you would like to give props to. (Did I get that right? I think so!)

I was then super surprised when 366 Days of Pinterest nominated me for the Liebster as well! What?!?! Talk about a motivating factor to keep blogging!

By the way, The Tragic Whale, is for sure someone to pop in on. She writes funny real-life based comics (like ones that you can RELATE to) and she has an adorable Etsy store! It’s a two-fer, and more.

366 Day of Pinterest may have made one of the smartest moves in the blog world! She blogs about different things that she has pinned on Pinterest and tried out at home! I think we might share a brain because she has already blogged about so many things that I have pinned and planned to try out for myself!

So who do I nominate for the Liebster Blog?

These five fabulous bloggers!

Martina in Jozi. She has the MOST inspirational bucket list!

Laura’s Recipe Journal. She makes unique recipes that makes my mouth water.

Sunday Crossbow. Although she may be a little more seasoned in blogging, I couldn’t pass up giving her props for her amazing taste in fashion. I love a lady that knows how to thrift!

The Cosy Creative. A lady with creativity all over the place!

Budget Cooking Blog. He is an amazing cook! Caution, your mouth will water!

Congrats to all, and thanks for being YOU!

Guess Who’s Here?!

Standard

So what do you think is missing from this picture? Clue, it is not cowboy boots, they just got cut off from the picture.

Give up?? How about these!!

The chicks are here!!

Aren’t they cute?! I know, everyone says they are mean and stinky when they grow up. We did pick from a group of rather docile breeds so hopefully they will be ok. The stinky part will be my husband’s job! He has been working on their pen so I’ll try to show up some updates on that later this week. The fun part is that we aren’t exactly sure which breeds we got. We just know they are all females.

None of them are Silkies. Do you know HOW HARD it is to purchase one or two chickens??? Um near impossible. I did however call up California and spoke with the people who sold Tori Spelling her chicken. They can send me two but it will cost me about $100.00. That seems to be the norm for having chickens shipped. AHH!!! But not to worry. I will have my Silkie. It is kind of nice having a few $1.99 chicks that I can test drive my farmer skills on. So far all 6 of them seems to be doing very well!!

Back to the picture of me. Don’t you love that red dress? It is super comfortable! unfortunately, it is not mine 😦 My friends and I were modeling clothes for a Fashion Show that benefits our local domestic violence shelter. We wore CAbi clothes. I’d love to purchase some of their clothes. They are high quality and made with a woman’s body in mind, but a bit steep in price. Ahhh dreams! Don’t you love the hippie braids in my hair? I think braids are going to be really popular this year. I have a bunch of new dos I’ve pinned on Pinterest I’ll be trying out in the near future.

Speaking of dos, I love this…

How pretty is that? This is my friend’s hair for one of the outfits she wore for the show. I think I’ll be getting a scarf or two for Spring for sure!

So remember last week when I shared my bounty from TJ Maxx? I wanted to share with you today a few pics of just how wonderful those Spaa meals are!

This box meal costs $2.99. The ingredients are all legible and delicious.

Doesn’t it look so yummy?? And it was so yummy!!!

I just added two servings of shrimp to my meal that I cooked quickly in coconut oil. I also added some peanuts and green onion. Just an FYI, this cannot be a vegetarian meal because I believe all of the sauces contain anchovies (if you’re smugging your nose at the sound of anchovies, don’t worry you can’t tell!). These dishes all have some heat to them. If you see a package, I would try them out!

Peanut Butter Who?

Standard

First, let’s start completely off topic. Let’s talk about my hair.

Pretty cool huh?? So easy to do if you have long hair! Just part your hair like you’re going to do pigtails, braid them and tie each end off. And then take each braid and tie them in a knot. If you have long, long hair like I do, knot them again. Then just tuck the ties in, underneath the braids and secure with bobby pins. If you have super thick hair like I do, you really should invest in the mega size pins. They are the best!

Now about this peanut butter thing… My son I was responsible for bringing in snack to his school. I had planned on making peanut butter blossoms but substituting the peanut butter cookie part and making them with sugar cookie. WELL, I got a little busy with the Pirate Party Planning that I lost my mind and bought stuff to make peanut butter blossoms instead of checking to see if I had everything I needed for sugar cookies. Crap! That is totally not the word I used at the time. I mean it wasn’t a huge deal because I was pretty sure I had everything on hand for sugar cookies but I was annoyed that I had not put together a plan for the sugar cookies. Don’t worry, the peanut butter will get used up in no time! Once I settled down, I had an oh duh epiphany! BISCOFF!!

That’s right! Biscoff Blossoms!

What? Were you expecting them to be brown? Look, by now we both know I’m not completely normal! Wouldn’t these be great for St. Patty’s Day? I’m starting to love the idea of Biscoff. Not only is it super amazing in taste, but  families with nut allergies could use it as a substitution in so many things! My kids don’t have peanut allergy, but since I was sending them into a roomful of kids that I don’t know, I thought I’d be safe. And what the heck, Biscoff is super good too!!

Don’t like the green?? No worries, it is exactly the same color as peanut butter blossoms.

See I'm totally normal!

I modified a recipe I found in this container of Hershey recipes I received for Christmas a while back.

1 bag of Hershey’s Kisses, I used Hugs

3/4 cups Biscoff

1/2 cup shortening

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed

1 egg

2-3 tablespoons milk (I started with two but towards the end added another splash because my mix was too dry)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

granulated sugar, I used green sugar sprinkles

Heat oven 375. Get your kids to unwrap your chocolates. I only used about 30-35.

In a small bowl, mix flour, baking soda and salt, set aside

In a large bowl, beat Biscoff and shortening with mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add both sugars and beat until fluffy.  Add egg, milk, vanilla, beat for about a minute. Slowly beat  in flour mixture. If needed this is where I added a little extra milk, start small and add a tiny bit more until it has a nice thick doughy consistency.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Press top with additional sprinkles, place on an ungreased cookie sheet. I used a pan with a silicone mat on it. If you don’t have one of these, they are so nice and not real expensive. Get one.

Bake for 8-10 minutes. When done remove from oven and press a chocolate in the center of each cookie. Cool cookies on a wire rack. My Hugs melted slightly but when they cooled they retained a small peak.

Enjoy!!

Love Notes and a do-over

Love Ur Guts

Banners are everywhere these days when it comes to decorations. I kinda heart them. I really heart them when they can be made almost cost free. Why buy something when they are so easy to make? And have you ever gotten together with a friend to make something? That is when it really becomes a good time. It becomes a great time when your little boy is calling her not so little man “Papa Smurf” while he is trying to have a somewhat serious phone conversation. 🙂 . Sorry Guy!

I love party planning, my friend loves hoarding stock piling craft materials (I’ve nick named her JoAnne 🙂 ) So between the two of us and our supplies this project came together easy.

A Little Game Plan

My banner was inspired by Mandi at Vintage Revival. For those of you that are interested, Mandi is currently asking for people to post on her blog about who they have a blog crush on. I would have posted on there myself that she was my blog crush but someone else already had and I didn’t want to seem creepy redundant. If you talk to Mandi, ask her to help me out. I showed my husband the banner I made and he didn’t understand why you would love someone’s guts. I tried to explain it but his eyes glazed over and I knew it was pointless to go further. Sigh.

Enough with my rambling. We first made a templet on how big we wanted each piece to be for the banner and then we cut them all out. After that we painted on our letters with some fabric paint.

AH!! I NEED A manicure!!!

After my letters dried (sorta) I added a little glue to my hearts for the glitter.

I heart GLITTER

My friend’s heart appeared a little sad and deflated. So she double layered it with a bold patter.

Bam!

Here is my friend’s finished product.

Love U Most

The phrase on her’s really resembles her personality.

Do you like banners? Have you made any for any parties or holidays? I’m thinking for the 4th or something I’d like to do a cake size one. They are too cute!

Did you notice the white side table/dresser jobby mine was hanging from? Did you scroll back up to look?? 🙂 That was another re-do! I purchased that off of craigslist  for about 30-40 bucks. I forget exactly how much I paid for it but I will NEVER forget the pulled muscles I had the next morning. That jobby was in these people’s basement. The wife was pregnant so she couldn’t help move it so it was up to me and her husband. I pulled muscles I didn’t know I had. I’m talking ankle muscles even! At this time I would like to thank that family for not killing me as I was in a stranger’s basement. I know, not super wise but if it makes you feel better I did can a law enforcement pal and gave him the address and told him if I didn’t call in 15 minutes to come looking for me.

So here is a picture of the before for my little jobby.

I'm having a real bad hair day!

Honestly she is one of those pieces that actually take better pictures than they really look in real life. Don’t be fooled, she was ugly.

And here is another picture of the after sans banner in the way.

I'm lovely!
