Back at it.

Well the New Year is here. Did you make a resolution? Have you kept it? I’ve really not been much of a resolution person in the past, but between the family being sick, being busy with the holidays, eating too much “comfort food,” I used the New Year to get back into my fitness routines.
These helped too…

This, although it is super beautiful, did not…

The good news is, my gym is pretty close so I can cruise on over there until it’s not so chilly! Also there is always sled riding for some physical activity!
If you play outside, be sure to make this dish for when you come back in. Spicy Chicken Stew!

Can You Hear That?

My house is completely quiet at the moment! Actually, it will be this way for the next few hours and I’m going to enjoy every second of it! My husband is on his summer break from work. Just finished Friday. Since then we have had a fun filled weekend! I realized this weekend, I desperately want an i-phone, because there were so many things I would have loved to share (good) pictures of with you!
Until then, I will share a few random thoughts and pictures I’ve been wanting to share!

Let’s start with breakfast! So Much To Share!

Sometimes I see pictures on Pinterest and I instantly decide that I have to make it. This sandwich was one of them.

Ah! Just looking at this picture makes my mouth water. Guess I know what I’ll be having for breakfast tomorrow! This recipe is so easy that I’m annoyed.

The original post had fresh blackberries! I can’t wait till my berries are ready. What I like about this sandwich is that you can modify it to be hearty or light! The sandwich turns out mildly sweet at most.

Here is what you’ll need:
bread (sourdough or cinnamon bread would rock!)
all fruit preserves
cream cheese
fresh berries (I used raspberries)

1. Heat pan over medium heat and butter your bread
2. Add cream cheese to one slice of bread and preserves to the other. Add fruit smack in the middle so they stay in place.
3. Cook in pan until sandwich is nice and golden on each side.

I have so many ideas for stir-in ideas, pecans, almonds, white chocolate chips or even a bit of Nutella! OR Biscoff!

Hope you made it through Wednesday!

Recipe adapted from Brunt Apple.

A Weekend Edition!

Let me first say, I’m trying to type this post on Peeta today, so if something screwy happens, I blame him! Last Thursday, the family and I took off for a last minute mini vacation to Indianapolis. I know most of the time I spend blogging about cooking and DIY stuff by I’ve decided to also add in trips because they are about new experiences and really isn’t that what this blog is about? I have to start out by saying that I was really impressed with Indianapolis! Whether it would be a family vacation or a couple’s getaway, there are a lot of great places to go!

First off, we got lucky by scoring a hotel room at the Hyatt for $62.00 a night! Guess who else stayed there? The Cleveland Cavaliers! At first, I just noticed some extremely tall guys at the hotel. My first thought was basketball players. Quickly we realized who it had to be. Then the fans waiting outside and the charter bus made it abundantly clear!

The first night, we got to town a little late, so we justwalked a around a bit, hit the Rock Bottom Brewery for dinner and took the kids to the hotel pool. TheRock Bottom Brewery had some of the best chili ever, I was just a little disappointed with the portion size. I’m pretty sure I ordered a bowl and got charged for one! But if that was a bowl, I’m not sure what a cup would be.

Saturday was when all the fun started!

First stop, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum!

If you have never heard of a children’s museum, don’t think security guards and old stuff (although I guess there is both), think hands on learning and fun!

They have exhibits that change throughout the year, when we visited, there was a Lego, dinosaurs and Mr. Potato Head exhibit!

The people at the children’s museum should get an award. The kids had a ball but imagine the chaos of hundreds of kids all super excited running around your job everyday!

So after visiting the museum we took a break before heading out for a quick bite to eat and then we walked to the arena to catch the Pacers play the Cavs!

After the game we walked back towards our hotel and ended up stopping at a chocolate/ice cream shop. There were a couple of people playing live music at the outdoor seating area so we sat out there with our snacks and enjoyed the music.

Overall Indianapolis was a friendly city with lots to do! There was plenty more we wished we could have done so we plan to go back for sure!

That is what I have nicknamed my ipad. Is it popular? Of course. But that isn’t the real reason why I’ve decided on that name. I decided to name my ipad Peeta because my ipad is hijacked, brainwashed, insane! Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE my ipad. However sometimes, I think my ipad forgets if my love is real or not real. Real Peeta, it is real! So until Peeta and I get past his brainwashing, I will continue posting from my trusty notebook.

Some may say that it is the operator, but let’s live in our fantasy world, m’kay?

On to other thoughts, I have a few out of town work projects coming up, would anyone like to guest blog for me? I’ve never had a guest blogger but I’m sure we could figure out the details!! Please email me if you are interested and let me know what your topic would be!

So the other day I was trying to think of something fun to do with my hair.

This is what I came up with! How fun?! The best thing, it is super simple and I promise pretty much anyone can do it! Let me know if you want details.

How about a couple light breakfast or snack ideas? I had been dreaming of this combo so I was super excited when it hit the spot. Even my husband was wanting to make it.

PB and Granola Apples! I think I will spare you the details on how to make it. I’m sure you’ll figure it out! This was the first time I’ve used that Better’n Peanut Butter. It is actually pretty good! I tried it out with another dessert but it was a disappointment. So I’ll spare you from that too!!  Did I tell you we love camping?? I thought this would make a perfect snack for then too!!

The second breakfast idea is equally as easy!

Broiled Grapefruit!  To me the title doesn’t sound as good as it actually was! This is super easy and only consists of a few ingredients.

You will need:

brown sugar

plain greek yogurt

Preheat oven to 450. Using a knife, cut around the grapefruit to separate the peel from the good stuff.

Sprinkle brown sugar to your preference.

Broil for 5 minutes or until the brown sugar starts to get bubbly.

I served mine with a few spoonfuls of greek yogurt and a dash of cinnamon.

Really? Me??

Have you ever been shocked when you got picked for something? So surprised that you had to do one of those quick glances around to make sure that person was really picking you? I had one of those days, twice in a week!

The Tragic Whale chose me for a Liebster Blog Award. First thought, Me? Really?? Second thought, THANKS! Third thought, what is a Liebster Blog Award?

So essentially a Liebster (which means something like “favorite” or “dear”) is an award given to the appreciated underdogs of the blog world. Those with around 200 (more or less) followers. A way of telling people who you are but then passing the torch to five blogging buddies whom you would like to give props to. (Did I get that right? I think so!)

I was then super surprised when 366 Days of Pinterest nominated me for the Liebster as well! What?!?! Talk about a motivating factor to keep blogging!

By the way, The Tragic Whale, is for sure someone to pop in on. She writes funny real-life based comics (like ones that you can RELATE to) and she has an adorable Etsy store! It’s a two-fer, and more.

366 Day of Pinterest may have made one of the smartest moves in the blog world! She blogs about different things that she has pinned on Pinterest and tried out at home! I think we might share a brain because she has already blogged about so many things that I have pinned and planned to try out for myself!

So who do I nominate for the Liebster Blog?

These five fabulous bloggers!

Martina in Jozi. She has the MOST inspirational bucket list!

Laura’s Recipe Journal. She makes unique recipes that makes my mouth water.

Sunday Crossbow. Although she may be a little more seasoned in blogging, I couldn’t pass up giving her props for her amazing taste in fashion. I love a lady that knows how to thrift!

The Cosy Creative. A lady with creativity all over the place!

Budget Cooking Blog. He is an amazing cook! Caution, your mouth will water!

Congrats to all, and thanks for being YOU!
